Personal Storage (PST) file stores comprehensive amount of data files comprising of personal and professional data. PST is saved in computer’s hard drive and is quite susceptible to corruption if hard drive gets damaged due to any reason. Threats such as malicious virus, improper shutdown and other hard drive corruption issues might hamper the integrity of these PST files.

Say for example, a user restores the PC or laptop using a recovery disk. But after restoration when the user tries to import the PST file in the Outlook Account, following error gets displayed:

“An error occurred while importing/exporting and the import/export was terminated. MAPI error 0X80070057 was reported. Please try to import/export again later”

The above error message means that the PST file has been corrupt. The main cause for PST corruption can be incomplete recovery. User can use the Scanpst utility to import the PST file in the Outlook account. After performing the Scanpst test, the user will find that only the file structure is available and the rest of emails are hidden and inaccessible.

To repair PST files, you need to use effective tool to repair PST. This PST recovery software enables the user to repair all the lost and corrupt data from the PST. Repair PST tool is a quintessential software that enables user to repair PST and perform recovery of PST data such as emails, journals, contacts, calendar and more.

Sometimes you try opening MS Outlook or attempt to access data from PST file but the process fails due to unexpected errors. These errors take place due to PST file corruption and might result in huge amount of data loss. In order to settle these issues and access your critical data, you need to select third party repair PST software.

You come to know about the requirement of third party repair PST software when you start Outlook or access any Outlook item, you might encounter the error message given below:

“An unexpected error prevented access to this file. Use ScanDisk to check the disk for errors, and then try using the Inbox Repair Tool again.”

In most of the cases, you might see all your Outlook data but won’t be able to open it making your data inaccessible. Consequently, you cannot use the data in it. Such errors occur due to PST file or hard drive errors. Due to corruption, Outlook cannot locate or access data from PST file. In order to retrieve your data, you need to have a third party repair PST tool.

If you take a look at the error message stated above, it prompts you to use ScanDisk Utility to check your hard drive for errors. This disk repair utility is designed to have an in-built with MS Windows. If in case your ScanDisk performs the check successfully and does not detects any error, then the problem is with PST file and you need to use Inbox Repair Tool (scanpst.exe) to check and repair the corrupt PST file.

Inbox Repair Tool is an in-built utility in MS Outlook that can detect and repair PST corruption and other minor issues. After successful completion of scanpst check, you can try to open the file to examine whether the problem is fixed or not. Inbox repair tool is helpful in some situations of PST corruptions, but it might not be successful in all scenarios. It can generally repair PST file which got corrupt due to file header corruption. However, if the PST is corrupt due to external reasons, the PST recovery is not possible using this tool. To repair PST gone corrupt due to unexpected errors, you need to make use of PST recovery tool.

If an index of the Outlook.pst file gets damaged then Outlook cannot open the file. If you try to open such a damaged file, Outlook displays following error message:

“Outlook.pst cannot be accessed - 0×80040116.”

The above error message simply means that you need to repair the Outlook.pst file in order to recover emails, contacts, notes, etc. from it. You can repair the PST file using Microsoft Inbox repair tool or using any third party repair pst software. The inbox repair tool is a freeware from Microsoft, which gets installed when you install MS Outlook. The inbox repair tool can help you repair the damaged PST file if the corruption is minor; but in case the file is highly corrupted, inbox repair tool cannot repair the file.

When you use the inbox repair tool to scan the damaged PST file, the tool does not show any error even when the file is not successfully repaired. And when you import the repaired file, Outlook again displays the same error message. In that situation, Kernel for Repair PST can help you.

Kernel for Outlook is an advance repair pst software, which has been designed with the aim of providing you a solution to repair the highly corrupted PST files in just few moments. With Kernel for Outlook, you can flawlessly recover emails, attachments, notes, contacts, etc. from the damaged PST files. The software supports all version of MS Outlook.

There is a new innovative way to add signatures on Outlook 2007 emails. It’s the use of Ribbon. Adding your contact information as a Signature to all your outgoing emails is very useful in a corporate environment and equally useful for personal emails as well. Adding signatures in Outlook 2007 is very much easy and is on the same line of MS Outlook 2003. In Outlook 2007 you have added option of using ‘The Ribbon’, as a new way to add your signature.

Follow on the given steps to add signatures in Outlook 2007 .pst emails:

Open up Outlook 2007 and click on New to compose a new message, then click on the Insert tab on the Ribbon and choose Signature.

Click on the New button on the Signatures and Stationery screen, type in a name for your signature then click OK.

Now use the Edit signature box to compose your signature. You can change the colors, fonts, etc.

You can use the “Choose default signature” section to choose a specific signature for different email accounts, if you have more than one account. When you are done click OK to proceed.

Now go back to the message you want to compose and choose which signature you wish to use.

Your selected signature will now appear. The great thing about this feature is you can have a custom signature for every person in your contact list if you want, and easily pop it into your message.

Sometimes when you start Outlook you receive these error messages:

Outlook cannot open the data file filename until it has been checked for problems

Microsoft Office Outlook’ exited without properly closing your Outlook data file ‘drive:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\outlook.ost’.‘Microsoft Office Outlook’ must be restarted. If this error message recurs, contact support for ‘Microsoft Office Outlook’ for assistance

The data file< filename> was not closed properly’. This file is being checked for problems

Reason behind occurrence of these error messages is improper shutdown of the PST file. You may face this issue till the time Microsoft completes the reconciliation process.

An incorrectly shut down .ost file or .pst file may occur for one of the following reasons:

Antivirus scanning of the file

Forced Microsoft Windows shutdown before the Outlook.exe process shuts down completely

Outlook add-ins

If you see this issue frequently, and you have to exit Outlook shortly before you shutdown your computer, it may be better to shut down Windows while Outlook is still running. We recommend that you do this instead of exiting Outlook and then shutting down Windows shortly after that.

If you delve deeply to know the reasons behind the Outlook PST file corruption, then you will find that there are umpteen reasons for Outlook PST files corruption.

Reasons for PST file corruption

Main reasons that make your Outlook PST file corrupt are:

Logical corruption – Logical corruption is caused by virus infection, human error, or software error when the file is opened and modified incorrectly.

Improper shutdown of the system before exiting the Outlook application.

Corruption in PST files size due to compact operation.

2 GB file size limitation - This happens when the PST exceeds the size of 2GB. When it happens, the PST file is rendered unusable.

Damage or deletion of header structures of PST file

Resolutions

1. Backing up PST file - For preventing yourself from catastrophic situation where PST file gets badly damaged, it is recommended that you make backup copy of the PST file in advance on a regular basis. Your PST files could become corrupted after an upgrade, so back up the files prior to upgrading. Another option is to rename the PST files to something other than Filename.pst, and then rename them back to their original names after the upgrade. Doing this prevents future corruption.

2. Using Inbox Repair tool – One can use Inbox Repair Tool for fixing the corrupted PST files. It’s an inbuilt tool that comes with MS Outlook email suite. Its filename is Scanpst.exe. However, the tool isn’t always able to repair every PST file. It works by repairing the PST file’s header and then deleting anything in the file that it doesn’t understand. So it is advisable make a backup of the PST file before running the Inbox Repair Tool. The Inbox Repair Tool is located in the C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\Mapi\1033\NT directory of any system that’s running Windows 2000 or Windows XP.

3. Using Outlook recovery tools – Third party tools are the perfect choice for dealing with any kind of Outlook PST file corruption issues. These tools are very much apprehensive and result oriented Outlook recovery tools. Kernel for Outlook PST Recovery software is one such software that resolves the Outlook corruption issue within minutes.
